Default New to forum - have an oil change question.

Hey, everybody! First post!

I bought a 2013 1.4L sxt turbo and was wondering when I need to change my oil? I bought the car at almost 19k miles and I'm wondering if an oil change light will turn on to notify me? I don't want to run on used oil. Thanks!

They do have an oil/service indicator but in my opinion it is to high mileage. Depending on how you drive I think the consensus is 5K intervals. If you are doing your own look on YouTube for how to reset your service indicator.

Stop by the Newbie section and introduce yourself. Everyone here is friendly and helpful.

From what I remember reading in the manual, the indicator light will come on sooner if you do excessive idling or drive more aggressively. It is supposed to come on / be changed no later than 8000 miles according to the manual.

Once you do an oil change, you can reset the computer / reminder (even if it hasn't tripped yet, you should reset it) by turning the car to "On" without starting it. Wait a couple seconds and then press the gas pedal three times all the way to the floor, releasing it, all within the first 10 seconds. Then you can turn the ignition off and the reminder should be reset. I just went through this last weekend.

I drive mostly highway miles and have very little idling, so I have no problems getting 8000 miles out of the oil. Where I need to do a better job is topping off the oil every few months. Topping off your oil as needed at least once or twice (if not more) in between oil changes is important and sometimes I fail to remember to do that until I'm almost close to my next oil change anyway.

At my next oil change in about 5 months, I'll send a sample off to Black Stone Labs to get the analysis done to see how the oil / engine is doing in my car. I've used their analysis on all my vehicles and it is VERY valuable peace of mind. Anyone telling you that XYZ mileage is too much or too little doesn't know for sure unless they've had the oil analysis done, and even that can vary from car to car. So, if you want to be sure, consider sending in a sample. Then you'll know for sure.
