After allowing some tire jockey at Pep Boys replace my right rear tire, I tried removing the wheel to replace the rear brakes with zero luck. Looks like they banged the wheels back on with a 12 point socket on a Walmart impact gun. Buggered the hell outta the lug bolts.
Now, they really are a cheap design, like they have been for many, many years. They take cheap bolts and squeeze a layer of shiny stainless cap over it. Think your original molar vs a capped molar in quality, ok? They bang wheel bolts on and off with impact guns and, well, after a few poundings, they are scrap! Will no longer come off with any socket.
I just bought and installed new, forged and chromed lug bolts from Gorilla Automotive. Got them on Amazon with a second, spare socket. They are a smaller diameter head and take a special socket to remove and install. These buggars won't fail like stock!
My suggestion, if you have stocker lug bolts, replace them with these. Hate to be on the road with a flat and NOT be able to change it.
