The car (1.4L) runs strong for the most part except when the turbo begins to spool at which point there will be one or two quick but rather intense surges in power. After that point the car accelerates smoothly and strong. Took it to the dealer with low expectations that were met and was told that was normal and designed to protect the turbo from "over torque". The problem is much worse when engine is cold/cold weather and all but disappears in warm weather. Got 7k on car with no other problems and I love driving it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I can vouch for it being normal. Someday someone will modify the 1.4l so it takes off like a normal car. It's way too excessive to just call it turbo lag.

Yeah, the turbo lag is pretty bad on these motors, but there are some aftermarket upgrades that help - based on experiences from other Dart 1.4l owners...Madness gopedal for example, cold/hot side pipes, etc.
